Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

In most circumstances, your General Dentist will usually perform routine oral surgery such as tooth extractions (exodontia). But what about when the surgical procedures are a bit more complicated? Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons, who will have completed both D.D.S. and M.D. degrees along with specific postdoctoral education in oral surgery, specialize in some of the more complex procedures. These can include, but are not limited to:

  • Routine tooth extractions
  • Complicated tooth extractions such as impacted teeth
  • Removing oral tumors
  • Surgery of the jaw to correct certain conditions
  • Various other complex oral and facial surgery

This specialization is not only limited to oral issues – it often overlaps with issues concerning the ears, nose and throat (ENT). If you find yourself considering or requiring any form of surgery around your face or jaw, it is highly advisable to consult with specialists in each overlapping specialist area.
